Greendell | Eichler Neighborhood Palo Alto

  • On the outskirts of Palo Alto’s Greenmeadow neighborhood is the Greendell Eichler subdivision. Built in 1956, this was a 50-home tract developed Joseph Eichler where he used a larger 4-bedroom floor plan. Homes here at not all pure Eichlers, there is a decent mix of older ranch homes, but the neighborhood as a whole is mid-century modern through and through. Today residents of Greendell use the recreational facilities operated by the Greenmeadow Community Association, which includes a swimming pool with programs for the entire family. Greendell residents love the quaint and quiet atmosphere of the neighborhood as well as the walkability and its proximity to public transportation as well as the Charleston Shopping Center, Mitchell Park, the YMCA and the Palo Alto Library. Neighbors gather every year for a Labor Day Block Party, and residents love how quiet the streets are.  Today, Greendell is still a beloved Eichler-ish neighborhood with residents who continue to uphold Eichlers ideals of community living with neighborhood block parties and bbqs. As an older neighborhood Greendell has watched Palo Alto and the greater Silicon Valley transform into the bay area we know today. As a worldwide tech hub, Palo Alto is home to companies like HP, Tesla, Skype, and VMware with tech giants Apple, Google, and Facebook all in neighboring cities. Downtown Palo Alto is a charming combination of small-town accessibility and urban ambience. Outdoor cafes, tiny coffee shops, bookstores, mom-and-pop specialty shops, national chains, art galleries, two movie theaters and numerous restaurants attract shoppers, eaters and entertainment-seekers of all ages.
